Eucharistic Prayer Music

As of April 7th we are singing the response in the eucharistic prayer that begins 'Great is the mystery of faith...'. Known as the Memorial Acclamation this response became common in the Eastern liturgies of the eucharist that developed in the early church. It forms part of the eucharistic prayer known by the Greek word Anamnesis. This is the part of the prayer that is about remembering what Jesus did at the Last Supper. For Christians 'remembering' in this way is not just rehearsing or repeating something that happened a long time ago—it is about re-entering and participating in the events recounted. We experience them for ourselves as real ways by which we share in the life of God. We do this in bread and wine, which, remembered, become for us the body and blood of Christ.
