Prayers for the Holy Land

Traditionally, labyrinths were used to symbolise the pilgrimage all Christians were encouraged to make to the Holy Land. They became popular at times when physical journeys were not possible, due to ongoing conflicts in the area. At this time, we find ourselves again in a time of heightened conflict in Israel-Palestine and we pray for all those affected as we walk our labyrinth here in Prestwood.

  1. Almighty God, hear the cry of our hearts as we hold before you the people of the Holy Land.
  2. Loving God, be near to those who have lost their livelihoods and loved ones and be a sure rock to those who are in terror this day.
  3. Compassionate God, we pray that, through your spirit of wisdom and mercy, conflict may cease.
  4. Lord God, we pray that guided by your Spirit leaders of the nations may work together for peace and justice.
  5. Caring God, look kindly on those who have been forced to flee their homes, to those seeking refuge in other lands, that they may be welcomed and cared for as you would care for them.
  6. Father, we pray for those who have lost their lives as a result of this conflict, for the parents who have lost children, for the children who have lost parents, may they know that they are loved by you.
  7. Comforting God, you walk alongside us in our suffering, we pray for all who are suffering in the Holy Land today, for Jews, Muslims and Christians, and for all the people of the land.
  8. God, you wept over Jerusalem as we now weep for your Holy Land, hear our prayers this day, we ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

As you leave the labyrinth, following the same path that took you into the centre. As you do you may wish to stop to repeat the above intentions, or to add your own, or simply to hold your prayers in your heart.
