Interment of Ashes

The Ashes Garden Memorial

In our Ashes Garden there is a beautiful memorial. The ashes of your loved one can be interred in front of the memorial and their names can be carved onto it as a permanent remembrance. Here we can honour those whom we have loved who have now died. It is a place of reflection.

In most cases, interments follow a funeral that we will have taken, and the priest conducting the funeral will talk it all through with you. But that is not always the case, and you can contact the clergy or our Parish Administrator, Amy, who can support you through the process of interment and answer any questions that you may have.

What do I need to know?

Some time after a cremation, it is usual to inter the ashes of the deceased in the Ashes Garden. Ashes are interred directly into the ground in an individual plot in front of the memorial. They will be poured into a prepared hole which will then be covered with soil and topped with grass -- you don't have a box or casket. Loved ones can be permanently remembered by having their names and years of birth and death engraved on the memorial itself.

The engraving will be arranged by the church. Our stonemason will carve in one-inch-high, brushed calligraphic capitals.

The carving will consist of:

  • First name and surname
  • Year of birth and year of death

The space for a second inscription can be reserved in order for two names to be remembered together in the fullness of time.

Please be aware that if your family has an existing grave or ashes plot that was dug with space for additional interments, ashes can still be interred in those plots.

The full policy for the use of the memorial can be found on our website.

How it works?

We will support you throughout the process. Please contact your Funeral Director who will arrange the date and time of the interment with us. They can also help you complete the attached interment slip (see below).

The Funeral Director will arrange the digging and back-filling of the plot and attend the interment, pouring the ashes for you during the service if you wish. If you do not have a Funeral Director, please contact us directly.

The costs and paperwork associated with the memorial are included on the enclosed slip.
